About Big D
The story of Big D’s Meats starts four years ago. At the time, Dustin Greenwood, better known as Big D, was experiencing the hardships of lockdown like most people. Each day feeling longer than the last, monotonously completing tasks behind a screen. However, one task was different from the rest, that being an assignment by his teacher to pursue a new lifelong skill. Big D took the opportunity to learn how to make pasta, from there, the culinary journey begins. Cooking consumed Big D’s life, so much so that he contemplated culinary school instead of attending Tulane, where he is currently a sophomore. Despite not attending culinary school, he still craved the grill and sense of community food can create, which is why when he noticed a lack of quality late-night food options at Tulane, especially seed-oil free options, he took the opportunity to open Big D’s Meats. For three months, Big D walked thirty minutes to and from Rouses Groceries to get everything he needed to run a successful operation that night. Although Big D ran into some challenges along the way, including many vying to shut down his business, he persevered, and now, coming Fall 2024, Big D is back on campus, and he can't wait to serve the Tulane community for the 2024-25 school year!
